The DeBary Inn was built in 1880 by Fredrick DeBary. When Fredrick was a
child he lived in Rheims, the heart of the European wine country.
Friends of the family, namely the Mumm's who were famous for their
champagne, convinced him to move to America. He started a wine
importing business, on Warren Street in New York City, which made him a
very wealthy man.
In 1916 the DeBary family sold their estate. The land was subdivided and the estate was moved 200 feet to its present location.
Lodging
began in 1923. The inn was originally called The Hobart Hotel but was
renamed The DeBary in 1941 to honor the original family. In 1959, it
became The DeBary Guest House and finally The DeBary Inn in 2006. Now
the newly renovated Debary Inn, the finest Hotel in Summit, NJ.
